Answers More about the new hosting technology developed by La Guilde La Guilde offers you a brand new hosting system. This new service is specially designed for Internet users who would like to put their findings, their pictures or their personal catalogues in an online database integrated into a website : a dynamic website. What kind of innovation does it bring to the Web ? Dynamic web pages allow each and everyone to display objects, items, pictures, works in a catalogue. This new technology allows different display options for the items contained in your database (in a list, with pictures, items wanted and items for sale, ...), as well as search and sort options (by era, title, author, subject, trade.... ) - all this in a dynamic way. A list of items is uploaded as a simple table. Then, the software developed by La Guilde analyses the data contained in that table, creates a specifically adapted database and generates the corresponding website. The entire process is automated and takes only a few seconds. It is also possible to create a website directly online, without having to upload a list. This solution is particularly useful if you have only a few items to put online - and it allows you to discover the service. La Guilde records private and personal information : what's your privacy policy ? As part of our editorial reponsibility, we are legally required to keep records on the identity of each member, but we will never display any personal information online. I already have a website. Why should I use La Guilde ? Catalogues and databases generated by La Guilde are fully compatible with already existing websites thanks to graphical customization options (background image, colours, fonts...). When creating your catalogues with La Guilde, your website benefits from as many online databases as necessary to display your data. Do you host regular HTML webpages ? We are a free webhosting service specialized in dynamic pages hosting, but we also provide free hosting services for "regular" HTML pages. It allows you to manage the contents and display options of your databases, catalogues and websites. It is automatically generated as soon as you create your first online database. The technical term "database" only refers to a collection of data - or information - organized into a table. Thanks to it, data can be easily sorted, categorized or filtered according to different criteria: thsi is the advantage of using a database. Your dynamic website on La Guilde automatically uses these options. A dynamic website : how does it show ? The site displays data in 6 different ways : in a plain list, in a list wih images, item by item, with items wanted, items for sale, as an image gallery. You can entirely customize your catalogues for a smooth transition from your "static" site - your webpages - to your new dynamic site - your databases. What's the use of an email address on La Guilde ? When you join La Guilde, you get an email account on our server (yourlogin@maniasys.com) plus 3 aliases (youralias@maniasys.com). Your email account on La Guilde is protected by the authentication password you choose when you register as a member - and whenever you connect to your account on La Guilde. You may change your password at any moment in your web manager. La Guilde is seeking beta-testers : what's this ? Being a beta-tester means being a special member : beta-testers try out all our services and send us suggestions. Beta testers are important to us, as they contribute in improving the services provided by La Guilde. I'd like to be a beta-tester. What should I do ? As a beta-tester, you perform regular tests and tell us of any idea or suggestion you think might be helpful, either by phone (33 243 39 29 49) or by email (webmaster@maniasys.com). Don't hesitate to ask more questions by writing to help@maniasys.com In the case of special characters being replaced by other characters (£, ü, ß, ¿, ç, ñ, etc...), you will have to upload your catalogue again ("change data and keep customization options") while making sure you save it as a "CSV file" instead of "CSV DOS" (which you probably chose the first time). The former file type handles special characters whereas the latter does not. Is it possible to put pictures online ? In order to be viewed on the web, pictures must be digitized (with a scanner or digital camera) and saved in files. These image files can be sent to La Guilde using 3 different methods. All the data (including image files) is kept in a secure database with which we generate web pages "on the fly". I've lost my password. What should I do ? An alternate e-mail address is required upon registration so that you can be contacted and get help in case you lose your password. It's up to you to raise them. Is it possible to insert an additional external link into the navigation bar ? Yes, though the webpage must be hosted on La Guilde - this page can in turn redirect anywhere. Otherwise, you can set up a link in your introduction page or within the online text for each of your items. Is it possible to add a link to sales conditions before the order confirmation page ?
